May i recommend...

carrot and coconut milk soup. tasty and sweet, perfect for arklike weather today.

Books books and more books

Finished "The Testament of Gideon Mack" - it was such a disappointment. I want to know more about the devil than just a limp 20 pages. It was a little flat.

Am now reading 3 books: The book of lost things - will try to read another book on a sad subject where children and very bad things happen (if I managed the book thief, then I am sure I can do more). The seven stages of motherhood. Apparently I am only at stage 2. The autobiography of John Prescott. Dont ask. Well, if you must, it was a birthday present, which I am obliged to read.

Made me laugh

Upon thinking that my son was eating something he shouldn't have been. "Whats in your mouth" I ask. "My teeth" was his response and he ran away at top speed.

The Constrictor

I call hubby that due to his ability to haggle. He must have swallowed a book on it as he is the best at getting a bargin. I would not want to be selling him something which I have not cut down the a mere shadow of a margin. His talent for haggling and my talent for picking the most expensive item in the shop, are a perfect match. I chose, he procures and kids ruin. A happy cornflakes box advert of a family.

Back to work

This will be the rough schedule:

7am - get up
7:30 get kids up and dress them
730-8am or whenever there is more toast on the floor than on their plates: breakfast
8:15 - block all escape routes from the hall and try to leave the house.
8:30 - 9am cajole kids into nursery, run like mad to the car, pretending to be anneka rice.
9 am - pick up fruit and vegetables from fruit shop
9:20 - 10 drive to work
10 - 4, work like mad and get full dose of adult conversation prior to leaving
4 - 4:30 drive to pick kids up
4:30 pick kids up and try to hurry nursery nurse along with her incredibly long discussion on the day. to be honest, if my kid is looking happy then it makes no odd to me what exact hue of plasticine they chose for their picture today. thanks, but I dont need to know that when I am in a hurry.
5pm, serve dinner
6pm, run bath
6:30, fish two kids out of the bath
7pm - remove work clothes, which are probably wet from bath and covered in dinner.
7:30 - lemonade and martini time.

8pm - cook dinner for the next day and prepare nurser bags (again).

Ofcourse, this all hinges on the fact that I dont need to make any adjustments to the above plan, like fill up with petrol, traffic jams etc, kids actually do as expected. As its two days a week, wont be too hard to bear should it all go horribly wrong!

Only ever listen to myself

Hubby told me I was being too harsh. Boy has had a wee accident at nursery for the past two days. Only ever happened at home once. I listened to the boy and ascertained that nursery are probably not listening to him when he tells them he needs a wee. Very helpfully, he only mentions his intentions once, like a last call for boarding, and then carries on regardless of what is happening.

My personal mantra at the mo is "do you need a wee"? Every half hour or so. Anyway, back to the wee accidents, if I may. Pick him up yesterday, only to be told that he probably has a uninary infection as he is going to the loo every half hour. I think they are being over dramatic and he probably has a chill, hey, I am only the mum, what do I know.

Drag boy and overtired baby to the dr. Upon telling Dr that nursery think he has an infection, Dr laughs and says thats probably unlikely and he prob has a virus. Am given a urine sample pot and told to bring it back tomorrow.

So far, its taken 3 attempts, each time the boy laughs when I tell him he has to aim for the pot. I have been covered in wee more times than is probably healthy today, and whats more, the urine then shoots out of the pot, just when I think we have enough. Resort to homoepathy book which says, if it does not smell or is not dark then dont worry. Its not and we are all the better for not trying to pee in a pokey pot.

The glass is half full...

Had to buy a new pair of glasses this week, as I left mine in Hungary in July. For the past two months I have been overwearing my contact lenses. The final straw was stubbing my toe on the bed for the fourth morning running, due to inability to see. Went to my opticians. Could I find a frame I liked? Did I want to spend a 3 figure sum on specs which I only ever wear in the house? Spent 2 fruitless hours trying on pairs. Decided needed lunch. Stopped off at a designer discount shop on the way, purchased new designer specs for 19.99. New lenses, will cost me £40 and so I will have saved over £60 on exactly the same pair of glasses. Go me.

Have also found discount contact lenses online, same brand, only 60% cheaper. Brucy bonus.
